Where is Me Luna Cup made?

At Me Luna we leave nothing to chance. We personally control all developments and manufacturing processes.

Our production is not outsourced. We produce, pack and ship here at our company headquarters in Haundorf (Germany).

Me Luna Cup is 100% Made in Germany.

What material is the Me Luna Cup made of?

The Me Luna Cup consists of medical compliant thermoplastic elastomers (TPE).

For the high-quality Me Luna menstrual cups, we have selected a phthalate-, PVC-, silicone- and latex-free material, which has been approved especially for use in medical products and devices.

Material safety?

Me Luna Cup has been registered as a medical device in several countries for years. The required sales license as a class II medical device has been granted.

Me Luna Cup does not contain any harmful substances such as bleach, fragrances, proteins, PVC, bisphenols, latex, silicone or alkylphenols.

A little material science

To produce a menstrual cup, you need a material that is elastic and will not disintegrate for several years if used in a humid, warm environment. Such a material does not occur in nature. Today you can make menstrual cups from three different types of rubber (elastomers): Silicone elastomers, Thermoplastic elastomers, Vulcanized rubber ("Natural Rubber").

All these materials are plastics. No menstrual cup is plastic-free or biodegradable.

Disposal / Recycling?

TPE can be recycled very well. In our production, defective parts can be ground immediately and returned to the running production process.

Single recycling of used cups is nevertheless difficult to realize, as the requirements for material purity and safety could no longer be guaranteed. Disposing of the approx. 10 grams of material with the household waste is currently the most sensible way. During the combustion of Me Luna carbon dioxide and water are produced. Natural rubber and silicone rubber cannot be recycled by simple processes.

A matter of trust

The purchase of menstrual cups is a matter of trust. All objects made of synthetic polymers could contain substances harmful to health.

Such contamination can only be avoided by proper processing of raw materials in medical grade quality from trusted material suppliers.

We take no risks when purchasing materials and processing - for your safety and health.

About allergens

Silicone- and thermoplastic elastomers have been used for about 40 years in many medical applications and consumer products.

In the meantime there are some indications that silicone rubber can very rarely trigger allergies. Many people are allergic to latex (vulcanized rubber).

So far, no allergic reactions have been observed with TPE.

Is Me Luna Cup vegan?

Animal-based additives are not used in the manufacture of silicone- and thermoplastic elastomers. These polymers are produced purely synthetically. Natural rubber requires many additives to produce a durable elastic rubber. Depending on the recipe, animal substances may be included.

What about animal testing?

Menstrual cups are - comparable to your toothbrush - not medicines or cosmetics, but "consumer goods".

Animal testing is neither required nor permitted for consumer goods in the EU.

A menstrual cup manufactured in the European Union is not tested on animals.
